How to Stay Motivated Working from Home as an Affiliate
Discover how to stay motivated working from home as an affiliate marketer in ways that make it fun and enjoyable as well as productive and profitable each day.
Make no mistake, working for myself at home is amazing!
It can be for you too as long as you follow some simple tips that I'll share with you here.
I have been working in my own home office as an affiliate marketer since the end of 2006, so I have plenty of experience of what keeps me motivated and even excited to be working here.
So if you want to make the dream come true and love what you do while you're doing it, keep reading!
A Home Office
The first place to start is to have your own home office space that's designated for working and generating an income first and foremost.
The space has to be functional above all, with a good sized desk, comfortable chair, a place to store documents such as a filing cabinet, a place to keep computing equipment, peripherals and storage media, a phone and shelves for books related to your business.
It has to be laid out ergonomically with enough space so you don't feel cramped or hemmed in and it has to feel "right" for your way of working. People differ in what's right for them, so that's something you'll have to decide for yourself.
It also has to be comfortable and you have to feel relaxed, creative and enthusiastic about spending time there while working.
I know it can be tempting to have a go at being a digital nomad and working from hotel rooms all over the place, but while it sounds like fun, I'll stick to the script and talk about home office working.
The Working Day
For me, the working day starts when I'm ready for it to start. This may seem counter-productive to those for whom schedule is everything and the clock is ticking remorselessly, but it works for me.
You see, I came from a corporate office working background where to be a minute late for work was a heinous crime and every minute had to be rigidly time managed in triplicate! When I left to work for myself, a part of me deliberately rebelled against this insane robotic mindset and I chose when I would work and when I would not.
However, regardless of being a badass rebel against our corporate overlords, I still make sure that when I am working, I am really working!
No Goofing Off
That means no social media or goofing off to watch a cool video or two. No unnecessary phone calls (for me, all phone calls are unnecessary), no texting and absolutely no procrastination!
How do I do this, being the dirty rebel that I am?
Easy. The work that I do is enjoyable, so it doesn't feel like work to me. It also makes money for me, which is a crazy but much welcomed perk of doing what I enjoy.
To that end, I actually look forward to getting started in the morning. So I don't tend to sleep in late when I can easily get up at 8am, exercise, shower and make a nicely brewed coffee to take into my humble workspace.
Because I like to get up at a decent hour, I avoid staying up late the night before, usually getting to bed before midnight.
I believe it's called self discipline!
Getting the Work Done
I'm usually more productive in the morning, so I use that time to get on with creating content and uploading pages to websites as needed.
I also use this creative time to build funnels to offers so that I maximise traffic and set up email campaigns to send out to my lists.
After lunch, I get on with searching around for new affiliate offers to promote, gather all the info on them that I can, collect the imagery that I need and plan out how I'll put it all together the following morning.
The timing aspect of this work is what I'd call flexible. No fixed start and end times for me because I believe setting those limitations is restrictive and counter-productive.
So when I start, I start.
When I'm done, I'm done.
If I get started at around 9am I may finish mid-afternoon if I get everything done that I intended to do. Or it might take me into early evening if I pick a project that involves a lot of ground work to make a good promotional push.
Whatever.
If I finish early, one thing I avoid doing is to find something else to do to fill up the time until the corporate clock says I can stop working.
Oh no...
Like I just said, when I'm done, I'm done!
Summary
You know, what I just shared might seem really simple to some, but believe me, by keeping things simple, the motivation to work stays high.
There's no other magic trick to this. I know of many people that work 14-16 or longer days from home and wonder why they feel burned out and demotivated.
That's not how to do it!
The basis for how I stay motivated while I work from home is I plan what I'm going to do for the next day, I do it and then I plan for the following day. I only do what I planned to do and no more.
I do this because I know that what I do each day is enough. It makes money and I don't stress over how I can make more, because I know that it's already enough.
After it's done, the rest of the day is mine. It's me time, during which I can do pretty much whatever I want.
I work from home for myself because it means I don't have a boss checking up on me or a dumbass supervisor looking for ways to make my life a misery. I work for me and you know, that in itself is a huge motivator!
Is this the big secret to staying motivated as an affiliate working at home?
It is for me.
