Ben & Jerry's Concise History

If you're interested in the company and where it all began, here is a short history lesson about the beginnings of this world-renowned ice cream brand.

Back in 1978, two guys called, not unsurprisingly, Ben and Jerry opened their own ice cream parlor in Burlington, Vermont. The following year, as the popularity of the home-made ice cream flavors grew, the guys rented additional space to begin packing their ice cream in pint containers. The did this so they could distribute their product to local grocery and "Mom & Pop" stores that could be found along the restaurant delivery routes.

The first franchise ″scoop shop″ store opened in Shelburne, Vermont in 1981. This initial expansion for the brand was the start of big things to come.
